Leonard Phillipson

Australian historical fiction writer

At the heart of the story are Anna and Sam Dalton, growing up in a colony where a family’s circumstances can determine its prospects. As their lives become entangled with powerful interests, protecting the people they love demands more than either could have ever imagined.

There’s plenty happening, and I’m learning as I go. I’ll be sharing snippets, discoveries and the occasional distraction that was supposed to be research. Have a wander through the posts and meet the Daltons. Their story is a good place to begin.

Step into colonial Australia, where a family’s hopes collide with a society that has already decided their worth.

The Catcher Man: The Price of Reckoning is the first book in a planned trilogy following the Dalton family. Beginning in Parramatta in 1832, the story moves through the waterfront streets of The Rocks and along the Great North Road towards Wollombi. At its heart are questions of belonging, the limits of loyalty and the choices people make when their hopes come into conflict with another person’s ambitions.

Anna and Sam confront injustice, buried secrets and difficult choices. As life changing events course through the lives of the family, they must decide how far they will go to seek justice, and what that pursuit will cost them.
